How to make a domain backorder request

Placing a backorder request is free. You only pay if we successfully catch the domain. If we do catch it for you, an order will automatically be created. If there are multiple backorders, it will become a backorder auction.

Domain Backorder FAQs

What is a domain backorder?

Once a domain has completed the expiration process and passes the redemption period, the domain is "dropped", meaning it is re-released back to the public for new registrants. Before it is returned to the market, users can place a 'domain backorder' and our domain backorder system will try to 'catch' or retrieve that domain the moment it is released. By placing a domain backorder, the user will automatically register that domain name if it does become available again for public registration and the backorder system successfully catches the domain. Visit our backorder help page for more information on domain backorders.

How does the domain backorder page work?

This page includes a list of soon-to-fully-expire domain names that you can place backorder requests on, and our system will attempt to catch those associated domains for you. Every domain listed can have a domain backorder requested and you will not be charged for making a request. If you're the only user who placed a request and the "Time Left" for the domain expires, an order will be created, and the domain will be placed under your account. Your account will be billed accordingly for successfully acquiring the domain through our domain backorder system.

What happens when multiple people place a backorder on one domain?

If multiple users place a domain backorder request on a single domain, it will enter a backorder auction. This domain will be then available for bidding by all eligible Dynadot users who want to participate. Our domain backorder auction functions the same way as our regular domain auctions. Visit our help article to learn more about backorder auctions.

Can I cancel a domain backorder request?

Yes, you can remove a domain backorder request through your Dynadot account in the "Backorder Requests" section of your account control panel (found under "Aftermarket").

What is a 'domain drop catch'?

Both 'domain backorder' and 'domain drop-catch' are used interchangeably in the domain industry. They both refer to domain backorder services.

Are all TLDs available for backorder requests

No, not all TLDs that are available for registration are available for backorder placements. We do have an extensive list of TLDs that you can place domain backorders on, and we are frequently added to more.

Is placing a domain backorder a guaranteed method of acquiring domains?

No, as there are multiple scenarios that can result in a domain no longer being available for backorder, such as the original domain owner conducting a restore during the restore grace period (removing your backorder), or multiple users placing a domain backorder.

Are there alternative ways to monitor domain names?

Placing a backorder request is a great way to try and add a domain to your Dynadot account, but if you're looking to monitor domains of interest that perhaps haven't expired yet or keep track of another domain's information, you can use our Watchlist tool. It will let you monitor any domain name directly from your Dynadot account, regardless of where it's registered and who owns it.

What is "EstiBot"? How is the price calculated?

The "EstiBot" column is an estimated worth of the domain in that row. The EstiBot is an automated algorithm-based appraisal system used across the domain industry to determine a domain's approximate value. This algorithm is constantly being improved and developed to assist domain investors in making informed investment decisions.
